Roundabout-sort-of-way

Here's a description I saw for a recent Windows Update:

'A problem has been identified in Filter Manager that can prevent you from installing updates from Windows update. You can help protect your computer by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.
'

Right, so what would you do if your computer actually suffered from this bug? Surely if you can't install the update to correct the fault due to the fault, so you'd have to install the Windows Update to fix it. But in turn you couldn't install the update due to the fault, etc.

My head hurts now.

In other news, me and Chrissey have moved in to our new pad high up above the town (in a literal sense). She's popped home for the weekend (something I will be doing tomorrow), and she picked exactly the right day, as about 9pm this evening the electricity meter - which I note we're having replaced soon - ran out of credit whilst I was cooking me dinner. Cue me fumbling around for the charge key using my phone as a light, removing aforementioned dinner from oven, losing charge key on counter, finding charge key underneath said dinner, wandering around Mutley Plain for a shop with a WORKING PayPoint machine, charging key up twice for fear that the value on the meter was below 'emergency money', wandering back to find no lightbulb above the electricity meter - forcing me to use afforemented mobile as light, spending 5 minutes fiddling with the meter as the key failed to work, and eventually - after 9 or 10 attempts - getting the accursed key to work and thus my electricity to come on again. The whole thing took over half an hour, by which time my dinner had gone cold and I had to heat it all over again. Hopefully £10 will last us until we get the sodding thing replaced with a regular meter.

I've just downloaded a DVD of Vista after recieving my key from Microsoft (cue much crucifixing of fingers and so on), but decided not to install it as my partitions need sorting. Plus, I don't want to break GRUB again.

Some wise words from Banksy

"People look at an oil painting and admire the use of brushstrokes to convey meaning. People look at a graffiti painting and admire the use of a drainpipe to gain access."

Severence unpaid

A few days back, I happened to catch Severence with a group of friends. I didn't intend to see it, but my cinema-working friend had blagged us some free tickets so I thought it would be worth a shot.

Essentially it's a comedy horror (more comedy than horror: I would probably say even more than Shaun of The Dead which always makes me feel depressed at the end). The storyline is about a group of office workers who, after having a few problems with a coach driver who doesn't speak English and a manager who doesn't speak Hungarian, get stranded in the middle of nowhere. Apart from their accomodation being a bit run down, they just can't get along with each other. But that's the least of their worries after they start seeing people lurking in the forest.

I wasn't really expecting to enjoy this (seeing as I was being dragged along by a horror obsessive) but I found it was well worth a watch. 4 stars.

In other news: I had some summer work to complete for Media Arts (despite me changing over to Computing). After 3 or 4 weeks of sitting in my office at home, I finally got it done and sent off. Hopefully, it'll break the 40% boundary so I can start my Uni life proper.

Finally, I found out that the track featured on the Orange animal package adverts (you know, the one that goes 'yo, yo, yo, yo, yo. I need an empire to overthrow') is by a bloke calling himself 'Final Fantasy' and named the track 'Adventure.exe' (taken from the album 'Final Fantasy has a good home'). He has also made an album called 'He Poos Clouds' all about the 'eight schools of magic in Dungeons & Dragons' and named after a song about being sexually attracted to Link from Zelda. Riiiiiight.

I'm moving down to Plymouth with my girly in 2 weeks, so hopefully everything will be back to normal by then. See you later!

Again, more proof online tests are cobblers

A couple of weeks back I took a geekiness test and a nerdiness test (just because everyone else in TermiSoc was taking them).

I scored 100% on Geekiness, thus making me a Geek God.
I scored 90-something% on Nerdiness, making me a Nerd God.

So.... for comparison I found a Loser test. And the results are:

I am 20% loser. What about you? Click here to find out!

So I'm 100% Geek, but rated 20% loser - thus 'Totally Cool Geek God'. I need to get a badge printed up.
